Announcing the Parent Ambassador Class of 2026

Featured What's New

Omaha, NE – The Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative (NECC) is excited to welcome the fifth cohort of the Parent Ambassador Program! The Class of 2026 includes 19 passionate parents and caregivers representing 17 legislative districts across Nebraska. This year also marks a four-year milestone for the program, which has grown in impact and reach since its launch, receiving a record 108 applications this year.

The Parent Ambassador Program provides participants with advocacy skills, leadership development, and the confidence and knowledge to connect with their policymakers. The goal is to ensure parents have a seat at the table where early childhood decisions are made. Over the year-long program, Ambassadors will deepen their understanding of the legislative process, engage with local and statewide leaders, and learn how to effectively share their experiences to influence positive change.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Class of 2026,” said Ilissa Talkington, NECC’s Parent Ambassador Program Director. “Parent Ambassadors bring powerful perspectives and expertise that can shape the future for all children in Nebraska. By sharing their stories and advocating for their families, they are not only influencing policy today but also paving the way for stronger, more connected communities tomorrow.”

In addition to welcoming the new cohort, we had a total of seven Parent Ambassador alumni assist with the first conference. Since then, three new Parent Ambassador Mentors have been hired, bringing the total to four alumni now serving as part-time mentors to guide and support the Class of 2026.

“We are excited to reach this milestone and celebrate the parents who now feel empowered to share their voices,” said Talkington. “Nebraska is stronger with their advocacy and their legacy will have a lasting impact!”
